Final Fantasy 7 Remake vs PS1 original: Now is perfect time for PS4 remake

Talk of a Final Fantasy 7 Remake began in early 2000s with hype surrounding a return to Midgar stepping up a fair few notches in 2005. That was when Square showcased the PS3 Final Fantasy 7 tech demo at E3 2005 and the Tetsuya Nomura directed Advent Children CGI movie was released. The PS3 tech demo showcased how good an HD version of FF7 could look, while Advent Children gave a glimpse of what a high-tech build could look like.

But despite the high demand for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake fans would be left waiting a long time for the project to get confirmed.

When it seemed like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake would never see the light of day the project was announced at E3 2015.

This reveal came a decade after the PS3 FF7 tech demo was showcased.

But that E3 2015 announcement was just the start of a further wait, with the eventual release date getting penciled in almost five years after that.

Throughout the noughties there has been plenty of chatter about an FF7 Remake, but it looks like Square Enix has timed the launch perfectly right.

Ever since the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced pictures of the game have showcased how good a PS4-powered version of Midgar will be.

And those that watched Advent Children back in 2005 and were left blown away have seen their dreams of what an FF7 Remake could look like far exceeded.

The in-game graphics of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake are leaps and bounds ahead of the vision of Midgar Nomura-san showcased in the 2005 CGI movie.

That’s how far graphics have come along in the past 15 years, and they’ve come along even further since the PS1 days.

You can check out how much video game visuals have progressed since FF7’s 1997 PS1 release with these side-by-side shots in this article.

Express.co.uk have hand picked a number of shots from the original and the upcoming remake for a PS4 vs PS1 visual comparison.

The team behind the FF7 Remake look to have perfectly captured the visual style and feel of the original while updating it to modern graphics.

Unfortunately, those who have been waiting for what seems like an eternity for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake will have to wait a little while longer.

It was recently revealed that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been delayed by around a month.

So, instead of launching on March 3 as originally planned it will be out on April 10.

Announcing the news, the FF7 Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase said: “We know that so many of you are looking forward to the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and have been waiting patiently to experience what we have been working on.

“In order to ensure we deliver a game that is in-line with our vision, and the quality that our fans who have been waiting for deserve, we have decided to move the release date to April 10 2020.

“We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience.

“I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer.

“Thank you for your patience and continued support.”
