Bored of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1? Try Hunt Showdown next on PS4 and Xbox One

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 will be ending soon, with another Battle Royale game soon launching on PS4, and already available on Xbox One and PC. Hunt Showdown left early access in 2019 and has been available on Steam for a long time. But with the launch of the PS4 version will come new options for fans. And a game like Hunt Showdown really should be considered for those wanting a change of pace from Fortnite and PUBG.

HUNT SHOWDOWN VS FORTNITE CHAPTER 2

There are some big differences between Hunt and Fortnite that need to be considered before deciding to switch.

First, Hunt Showdown will cost you money to play on PS4, Xbox One and PC, with extra cosmetic options available.

Then there is the base gameplay, which differs greatly to Fortnite Battle Royale’s winning formula.

But that is why I think Hunt Showdown should be considered for those gamers looking for something a little different.

Hunt is a Battle Royale game but it doesn’t deal with the idea of closing circles or building defences.

Instead, Hunt’s main mode is centered around finding clues that lead you to a boss battle somewhere hidden on the map.

The catch here is that you’re not alone, and there will be a mix of teams looking to do the same thing.

Competing with others provides those same intense encounters fans will have grown used to in Fortnite, but in a different setting and surrounded with deadly NPCs.

These enemies are spread across the map, which can burn, poison, or make you bleed out.

In the Bounty Hunt mode, players score points by killing enemies, taking down other Hunters and defeating the final boss.

Hunt Showdown does use a timer, meaning you only have a certain amount of time to do all this, and there are a lot fewer players on the map then you will find in Fortnite.

If you manage to defeat the boss, you will then need to banish them, which takes time, and then extract with a boss token.

Having collected a token, you will then become visible on the map, making for a tense countdown to find an extraction point without being eliminated.

It makes for a tense and exciting game which can sometimes go very, very badly. But the payoff is similar to finding yourself the final player in Fortnite Chapter 2.

BIG DIFFERENCE

The big difference between Fortnite and Hunt Showdown – apart from Showdown being an 18+ – is the tone of each game.

While Fortnite is colourful and light-hearted, focusing on a Battle Pass filled with cosmetic items, Hunt Showdown is powered by pure nightmare fuel.

Bosses are giant spiders made out of humans parts, or flaming monsters with pig heads, which make disgusting squelch sounds.

There’s nothing quite like trying to find a giant arachnid, while you can hear its creepy legs tapping away on the floorboards above you.

In essence, Hunt Showdown could be a great way to carry on enjoying the Battle Royale formula while experiencing something completely different.

And like Fortnite, Hunt Showdown is a game that’s hard to master and easy to get lost in.

WHEN IS HUNT SHOWDOWN OUT ON PS4?

Hunt Showdown has a release date set for PS4 consoles for February 18, 2020. And there is a reason why this should be good news for Xbox One gamers too, who can already play the game.

It will mean more regular updates moving forward, plus cross-play support is being planned for the future. And for a game that needs a lot of teams to fill servers, this will be great for new and existing players alike.

A message from the Hunt Showdown team explains: “We understand that the delays have been very frustrating for our Xbox fans.

“Our main goal through every stage of development has been to ensure the best possible experience in Hunt regardless of the platform you are on.

“As mentioned in our blog before the holiday period; a number of issues arose that meant releasing the 1.1.3 update could potentially result in an unpleasant experience over the holidays, which is something we wanted to avoid.

“With this time, we have been able to resolve a number of the issues that were present but rather than push this update now, we have decided to combine it with 1.2.0 so that we can work on extra features, which we will have more information on in the coming weeks.

“Once we are through the launch phase of PS4, the plan for updates going forward will be a lot more structured.

“PC will receive the future updates first – initially on the Test server which will then be pushed to live – and barring any major issues, PS4 and Xbox One will receive the update shortly after this.”
