Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Denise Richards and her husband, Aaron Phypers, have reportedly been sued after they allegedly trashed a rental property. It appears that the owner of the home is accusing Richards and Phypers of ignoring a specific clause in their lease about what kind of pets they could bring into the home.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, Richards and Phypers rented a home in Los Angeles on July 22, 2018, and when they signed the lease they agreed to have only three dogs and two pot-bellied pigs inside the home.
In the lawsuit, the property owner claims that Richards and Phypers signed a lease and agreed they “would house no animals on the property other than two pot-bellied pigs and three dogs.” And, they would “properly use, operate, and safeguard the property, keeping it clean and sanitary, would pay for all damage to the property caused by tenants or pets.”
The rental contract also stated that the couple and their guests would not disturb or annoy neighbors. And, when they vacated the premises, Richards and Phypers were supposed to surrender the property after removing all of their personal belongings and removing debris. The lease specifically stated that they must “return the property in the same condition” as it was when the lease began.
The owner claims that Richards and Phypers caused significant damage to the rental property, and they “knowingly and willingly violated the Pet Addendum.” However, the owner didn’t give specific details on how Richards and Phypers violated the pet addendum or what kind of damage they caused.
The owner also accuses Richards and Phypers of “intentional misrepresentations,” and claims the couple did it with “malice, oppression, and fraud.” The owner also described their conduct as “despicable in that it was so vile, base, contemptible, miserable, wretched, and loathsome it would be looked down upon and despised by ordinary decent people.”
Richards’ attorney Stephen Bernard has responded to the lawsuit, saying that he is entitled to see proof of damages and invoices and receipts describing the damage that had to be repaired. Bernard claimed that the owner refused to send any photos or video of the damage they accuse Richards and Phypers of causing.
Bernard also pointed out that the home recently sold at fair market value, which means that neither Richards nor Phypers should be held liable for any issues the home may have had. He also accused the property owner of trying to get money from Richards because of her celebrity status.
Bernard also pointed out that Denise Richards and Aaron Phypers discovered major issues with the home when they first signed the lease, and they videotaped the property when they moved out.
“My clients had videotaped the premises after moving out. There does not appear to be damaged as you describe. I am more than happy to share the videotape with you,” wrote Bernard.
