Graphia said this change from the books was “to highlight how much Claire’s presence has influenced Jamie and his attitude”.
She added: “Plus, Jamie’s seen a lot of beatings, he deserved a break.”
Graphia was making reference to the torture Jamie faced at the hands of the evil Captain Black Jack Randall (also Menzies), who beat him numerous times and raped him in a bid to psychologically control the Highlander.
Jamie has also faced many other hardships including nearly dying at the Battle of Culloden when he sustained a major injury.
He was subsequently incarcerated at Ardsmuir for his part in the rebellion against the British crown.
Season five is going to see Jamie face further hardships as he’s forced to fight as Redcoat and fulfil his oath to the crown – even though he knows they will lose.
