Xbox One news: New Xbox Live Free Game bonus following shock Switch release rumour

Xbox One gamers looking for a new challenge this weekend have a number of different free game options to check out.

This will also mean having an Xbox Live Gold subscription, as many of these include multiplayer aspects.

This also opens up the January Games with Gold lineup for download but there are also a few demos to try as well.

A new fast-paced action/puzzle platformer is available to try out from the Microsoft Store.

AeternoBlade II is one of the latest Xbox One games to get a free demo having launched back in May 2019.

As you might expect, there are also limitations to what you can do compared to the full game, so don’t expect full multiplayer support, among other core features.

It should also be noted that AeternoBlade II has a 12+ age rating and will take up around 5GB of console space.

Another free game option worth checking out this weekend includes Darwin Project, which recently saw its full release.

This Battle Royale title has been Preview for some time and has also been available to play for free since 2019.

However, this month saw Darwin Project receive its full release, meaning the final product is now available to experience.

In Darwin Project, ten inmates must survive the elements, track each other, fight, craft tools, and use their social skills to be the last one standing.

It’s a new spin on the now heavily diluted battle royale genre, with a Show Director another factor. They can influence the match and use Spectator Interactions to introduce changes to gameplay.

And if you were part of the group of early access players who first tried Darwin Project, logging back in should provide you with an extra reward.

“We would like to thank you all and what better than a ‘Pilot Hat’ to show our appreciation?” a message from the development team explains.

“Therefore, at launch, on January 2020, all of the players who participated and played during Early Access will receive an exclusive version of the ‘Pilot Hat’! For us, pilots symbolize adventure and discovery, which is quite fitting with our road to full release over the past year.”

It follows shock news linking the Halo franchise and games with a release on the rival Nintendo Switch console.

A new post on ResetEra provided by the King Zell account suggests that something Halo related is coming to Nintendo Switch.

This account has been linked with past rumours that have proven true, giving what it says more clout.

And it should be pointed out that no real details are part of this new leak, with King Zell writing: “I’m definitely not back, just dropped by to say Halo.”

This was in reply to the account coming out of status to post something new, followed by another comment linking a Halo announcement to a future Nintendo Direct.

And so fans are now eagerly waiting to find out if there are any plans for a new Direct event in early 2020.

Nintendo has dedicated time to both Super Smash and Pokemon games in January but has yet to announce a generic Direct.

And following recent rumours of a number of high-profile leaks, it wouldn’t be surprising to find out that one is being planned for February.

But the question will be whether any Halo games will be announced for the Nintendo Switch, much like the Master Chief Collection on Steam.
