Sex Education season 2 ending: Maeve Wiley star Emma Mackey teases different conclusion

Sex Education sent viewers on a journey as Otis Milburn (played by Asa Butterfield) was struggling to figure out how he felt about Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey). After finally realising he was in love with Maeve, he confessed his feelings through a voicemail while she was competing in the quiz competition.

But when Maeve eventually had a chance to listen to the voicemail, she was distracted by Isaac (George Robinson), who sent her to get some food.

In her absence, Isaac listened to the message and deleted it, leaving her none-the-wiser to Otis’ feelings.

Isaac’s horrific act of defiance against Otis follows almost an entire season of him being the smart, funny, good guy, leaving fans of the show utterly distraught by his actions.

Mackey herself was shocked by the way Maeve’s final scenes went, as she revealed speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk.

Whilst being quizzed on the infuriating scenes, she offered: “Do you know what? That wasn’t even in the original script.

“So that was kind of like a last minute – because I haven’t seen the last episode – so if my memory serves me correctly [it was new].

“I don’t know, I don’t know… I just want to see it first before I make a judgement on [the ending].”

When Mackey was grilled further on what the original ending for the series was, she protested that she didn’t know.

When asked by Express.co.uk about whether he could announce a third season, he replied: “No, I’d love to [announce another season].

“But the gods of Netflix are really smart. They’re really smart, and they look at all their things…”

“Honestly,” he announced. “I think – my personal opinion – I think it would be astonishing if we didn’t get to go and do more.”

Petrie then swiftly clarified the third season of the show came down to the fans of the show, rather than Netflix.
