Man Utd hero Gary Neville claims he was ‘glad’ to see Liverpool beat former side

Gary Neville has surprisingly claimed he was “glad” to witness his former side Manchester United lose against Liverpool. Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah were the difference as the Reds went 16 points clear at the top.

It was a performance that Liverpool fans clearly enjoyed as the Kop bellowed out “we’re gunna win the league, and now you’re gunna believe us!”

This season, Liverpool fans have sung “Liverpool, top of the league” but they couldn’t resist but change their tune after the win over their bitter rivals.

Speaking after the game, Neville confessed that he was actually taking some satisfaction from hearing the chants at Anfield

”We’ve just witnessed Liverpool there today announce that they are going to win the league, even though we all knew it,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast on Sky Sports.

“I’m glad I witnessed it as a Manchester United fan because you need to suffer sometimes and you need to feel pain.”

After losing out on the title by a single point last season to Manchester City, Liverpool will be enjoying every minute at the top of the table.

Despite admitting that he has a lot of respect for Jurgen Klopp’s team, Roy Keane believes Liverpool are only making up for lost time.

“Liverpool a great team? Everyone’s getting carried away because they’ve been brillant,” he told Sky Sports.

“This will be their first league title.

“You’ve got to win a few league titles. Last year?

“They finished second, second is no good. Do me a favour, pat on the back.”

Liverpool are now 30 points clear of Manchester United.
