Bonnie Langford split: How ‘most stable couple’ split in heartbreak for Eastenders star

Bonnie tied the knot with fellow actor Paul Grunert in 1995. In 2015, she was granted a “quickie” divorce from Paul days after she joined EastEnders as Carmel Kazemi.

The pair met in a musical in 1987 and initially Bonnie saw Paul as just a friend.

They married in a secret ceremony in Mauritius but by 2015 Bonnie and Paul “fell out love”, a friend of the ex-Eastenders actor told The Mirror.

Bonnie cited her husband’s “unreasonable behaviour” in her divorce papers.

The couple had a daughter, Biana Grunert, together in 2000.

In 2015, shortly after the couple’s divorce, a friend of Bonnie’s told the Daily Mirror: “She is getting over the pain in the best way possible by taking on a new challenge in her life.

“She split from her husband quite some time ago and it is very amicable and they remain good friends.

“Bonnie has not discussed the split publicly as she wants to talk about EastEnders now and not her personal life.

“The priority for her and Paul is their daughter.”

The couple’s divorce took a short time to complete with the documents rubber-stamped a month after being submitted.

A source told The Sun shortly after the split was made public: “This is a massive shock as Bonnie and Paul were viewed as having one of the most stable marriages in showbusiness.

“Her role in ‘EastEnders’ has now turned out a bit like life imitating art.”

She went on to feature in the 1976 film of musical Bugsy Malone and in Wombling Free in 1977.

Bonnie is arguably best known for her role as Mel in Doctor Who.

Starring in more than 20 episodes, she was the companion to the Sixth Doctor, played by Colin Baker, and the Seventh Doctor, played by Sylvester McCoy.

In 2006, she was a contestant in Dancing On Ice and returned to the show for the ninth series, which saw favourite celebrities from previous series take part once more.
