Avenue 5 HBO release date: When does it start? How many episodes?

Avenue 5 is the latest series from Veep and The Thick of It creator Armando Iannucci on HBO. The show follows the crew and passengers of Avenue 5 aboard a space-cruise ship in the not too distant future when things take an interesting turn. The series features an iconic cast including Hugh Laurie, Josh Gad, Zach Woods, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Rebecca Front and Lenora Crichlow.

When does Avenue 5 start on HBO and Sky One?

Avenue 5 premieres tonight (Sunday, December 19) on HBO in the US.

Viewers will be able to watch the first episode of Avenue 5 at 10pm Eastern Standard Time (EST) on the channel or stream the episode via HBO’s website and app.

If you happen to miss any episodes of Avenue 5, fans in the US can catch up via HBO Now.

HBO’s streaming service, HBO Now, costs $14.99 per month and is included in the paid cable TV subscription.

How many episodes are in Avenue 5 on HBO and Sky One?

There are eight episodes in total of Avenue 5 on HBO and Sky.

Each episode is just 30 minutes long and will air weekly in the US and UK.

The episode titles for the first four episodes have been revealed and some details about each instalment.

Episode One: I Was Flying – Sunday, January 19 (HBO)/ Wednesday, January 22 (Sky)

The season premiere introduces Ryan Clark (played by Hugh Laurie) of the Avenue 5 spaceship and his team, when something goes horribly wrong in space.

The synopsis for the first episode reads: “When a malfunction occurs aboard the luxury space cruise ship Avenue 5, it’s up to engineer Billie McEvoy (Lenora Crichlow) to warn Captain Ryan Clark, Avenue 5 owner Herman Judd (Josh Gad) and his right-hand-woman Iris Kimura (Suzy Nakamura) that the incident may have a cataclysmic knock-on effect.

“As Rav Mulcair (Nikki Amuka-Bird) manages the situation from mission control back on Earth, Matt Spencer (Zach Woods), the head of customer relations, tries his best to calm frayed nerves on board, and persistent passenger Karen Kelly (Rebecca Front) discovers the crew may know more than they’re letting on.”

Episode Two: And Then He’s Gonna Shoot Off… – Sunday, January 26/Wednesday, January 29

Episode two sees NASA attempt to help the stranded Avenue 5 spaceship.

However, Cyrus (Neil Casey), an engineer working on the ship is petite they can handle the problem themselves.

Also, in the episode, Mia (Jessica St Clair) and Doug (Kyle Bornheimer) receive marital counselling from Matt.

Episode Three: I’m A Hand Model – Sunday, February 2/Wednesday, February 5

The synopsis for the third episode reads: “With Avenue 5 staff slacking in their customer service, Ryan, offers Karen the opportunity to channel her unique talent for speaking the passengers’ language.

“Judd outlines the plan for a rescue mission and tasks Iris with organizing a vigil on Earth to raise the money to fund it.

“Rav endures a barrage of messages from the ship and handles an unruly press conference.”
