Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 release date: Latest Switch news is great for Nintendo fans

Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 has been linked with a massive new Nintendo Switch console launch this year, and it looks like another interesting contender could join it. The latest news surrounding The Legend of Zelda sequel is that Nintendo wants to release the game in 2020 as part of a strategy to combat the impact of the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This would be part of a wider strategy to launch a Switch Pro console, an upgrade on the original launched in 2017. Releasing the Switch Pro during Summer 2020 would then be followed by the release of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2.

Rumours suggest that Nintendo is aiming for a launch later in 2020 but even those sharing that report are stating that delays are quite possible.

The new Nintendo Switch Pro also remains a rumour, for now, meaning we have to take all of it with a pinch of salt.

However, what we do know is that a game that has been compared with the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Genshin Impact has been heavily inspired by the open world and aesthetics of BOTW and was originally only expected to land on PS4, PC and Mobile.

But a new report out this week confirms that Genshin Impact will be launching on the Nintendo Switch too.

Developers MiHoYo confirmed the news with a new trailer which showcases what Genshin Impact will be like to play.

“Open-world ARPG game Genshin Impact will come to Nintendo Switch in the future,” a message from the studio reads.

“So far, Genshin Impact is expected to be available on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS and Android.”

Initial reaction to the announcement has been positive, even though some fans reacted badly to the reveal of Impact back in 2019.

But while this Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 rival is now coming to Nintendo Switch, we don’t have a timetable for when that might happen.

While Genshin Impact is scheduled to launch on other platforms in 2020, that isn’t the case for Nintendo Switch.

By keeping the launch window vague, it would appear that Genshin Impact might take longer to arrive on Switch.

So we could be in a situation where Genshin Impact arrives first on PS4 and PC, with Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 launching on Switch around the same time.

Other news has also surfaced regarding the release of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 this week.

ahead of the Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 release date fans have been delivered some great news.

Like with the original Breath of the Wild, Nintendo has enlisted Xenoblade makers Monolith Soft to help develop the new BoTW game.

And it looks like extra resources could be on hand soon if needed to help ensure Breath of the Wild 2 does meet its 2020 release date.

According to a new leak, one of Monolift Soft’s most high profile projects – the Xenoblade Chronicles remake – is releasing soon.

A listing from Danish retailer Cool Shop has pencilled Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition as having a May 29 release date.

This hasn’t been confirmed by Nintendo yet, but it would make possible for Monolift to take a large role in the development of BOTW 2 during 2020.

Whenever Nintendo does choose to launch Zelda Breath of the Wild 2, it seems likely to be another best-selling hit for Nintendo and its Switch console.
