Samsung Galaxy S20 leaks have kicked into high gear this week. First XDA Developers unearthed images of the Galaxy S20+ 5G in the wild and now it’s shared a brief hands-on review video along with a few extra tidbits about the forthcoming flagship. So if you’re spoiler-averse, look away now. XDA Developers’ Max Weinbach is the go-to man for Galaxy S20 leaks. Earlier this week he shared images of Samsung’s forthcoming device in the flesh from a source that not only showed off its design, but also appeared to confirm it will be called the Galaxy S20, and not the Galaxy S11 as had been expected.
Weinbach showed photos of what he claimed was the Galaxy S20+ 5G, which is tipped to be the most premium S20 model (save for the rumoured S20 Ultra expected to boast a larger display and an improved camera system). The S20+ 5G is depicted with an all-screen design featuring a centred hole punch à la Galaxy Note 10 and a new rectangular camera system on its rear housing four sensors.
The XDA Developers host and writer hasn’t stopped there though. Most recently he posted a hands-on video that appears to be from the same source as his first batch of still images. The 13-second clip shows the S20+ 5G from all angles, exhibiting its centred hole punch, lock screen and rear camera system.
Most notably, the footage gives an idea of just how big the Galaxy S20+ 5G will be in your hand. The hardware is rumoured to come with an enormous 6.7-inch display, but it seems Samsung has worked to try and make the device feel more manageable in the hand by introducing a new 20:9 aspect ratio. In fact, Weinbach showed an image of the S10+ next to the purported S20+ 5G – the latter is shown to be slightly taller than its predecessor but doesn’t appear to be any wider.
The S20+ 5G’s lock screen is also shown to feature a fingerprint symbol in the bottom third of the display, suggesting Samsung will once again embed its biometric scanner beneath the phone screen. Weinbach expressed confidence the South Korean tech giant will once again leverage an ultrasonic reader for the S20 series and not an optical one.
The XDA Developers host and writer also shared an alleged image from the S20+ 5G display settings that seems to confirm the hardware will boast a super smooth 120Hz screen. It seems users will be able to choose whether they want to set the screen to 120Hz or a more typical 60Hz to save battery life.
Finally, Weinbach also shared a few screenshots of the device’s specs. The S20+ 5G’s display was noted to tote a pixel-packed resolution of 3200×1440 which, if accurate, is slightly higher than that of the S10+, although it’s worth noting that could be to make up for the S20+’s rumoured larger screen size.
Elsewhere, the S20+ 5G was said to come with a rated battery capacity of 4,500mAh and pack a whopping 12GB of RAM.
Internally, each member of Samsung’s new smartphone series is expected to be powered by either Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 865 processor or the Seoul firm’s in-house Exynos 990 processor. As always, Samsung will vary the processors by region, with US customers usually treated to Qualcomm’s components, while UK users get the Exynos counterpart.
Although Weinbach’s leaks have centred around the S20+ 5G, Samsung has been widely tipped to be planning the debut of four other S20 models on February 11. They are expected to be called the following:
• Samsung Galaxy S20 (successor to the Galaxy S10e)
• Samsung Galaxy S20 5G
• Samsung Galaxy S20+ (successor to the Galaxy S10)
• Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G
• Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra (successor to the Galaxy S10+)
In addition to the S20 series, Samsung is also expected to show off its next foldable phone that could look very similar to the revamped Motorola Razr.
