Dan Walker’s BBC Breakfast co-star Mike Bushell reveals host 'would never do Strictly'

Dan Walker, 42, was very vocal in support of his BBC Breakfast colleague Mike Bushell, 54, when he competed on Strictly Come Dancing last year. When the BBC newsreader became the seventh contestant to leave the competition, Dan congratulated him in an Instagram post, which read in reference to his entertaining final dance with Katya Jones: “Mike certainly knows how to leave a party.

“Makes a beautiful speech… CONGA. Well done @mikebushellofficial. It’s been brilliant to watch and you leave with your head high.”

However, Mike has insisted the Football Focus star hasn’t been persuaded to follow in his footsteps by signing up to the dance competition in the future.

The journalist, who is currently preparing for the Strictly Come Dancing 2020 tour with his partner Katya, admitted that although Dan is planning on attending one of his live shows, he isn’t tempted to take to the dance floor himself.

Speaking to Express.co.uk alongside Katya at the tour’s launch in Birmingham, the dancing duo revealed Dan paid them a visit during their tour rehearsals.

“You know, you don’t have time to mess around, it’s three days to nail the routine and when we knew we were limited on time we got focused.

“That’s what I love about Mike because even though he got all the steps right and wanted to improve he never forgot the fun aspect to it because that’s what dancing is for and that’s what he was there for.”

Mike went on to address the health benefits of signing up to the series, describing his rehearsals with Katya as a “workout”.

The BBC favourite gushed: “What a workout it is as well!”
