Texas shooting: Teenager shot dead in horrific attack at high school in Bellaire

Authorities have said that a suspect and another person were later arrested, according to the New York Times. The terrifying incident occurred at around 4pm CST (10pm GMT).

The shooting began just as classes were coming to an end at Bellaire High School which is in southwestern Harris County.

Emergency services were seen performing CPR as the student was carried on a stretcher to an ambulance, according to KPRC-TV.

There have been conflicting reports as to whether the shooting took place inside or outside the school.

Footage from outside the school showed students crowding outside the school with police cars and ambulances, according to the MailOnline.

The school is part of the Houston Independent School District.

The authorities have not yet released the same of the student who was shot dead.

Mayor Andrew S Friedberg of Bellaire said: “It’s utterly shocking in a community like ours.

“We enjoy the safety that comes with living here. We’re very family-oriented.”

“We will also have extra officers on campus and patrols around the campus in addition to extra administrative personnel to ensure the school is safe and secure.”

The Bellaire Police Department said it was not immediately prepared to comment on the situation.

Bellaire is a city in southwest Harris Country, Texas, in the US within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area.

The city has a population of around 16,855.

In August 2017, the city was impacted by Hurricane Harvey – a Category 4 hurricane.
