Will Smith And Martin Lawrence Named Honorary Members Of The Miami Police Department

This Friday, Bad Boys for Life, the third installment in the Bad Boys franchise, will come out in theaters, so Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have been busy promoting the film, conducting many different interviews and even receiving special accolades.

Fans of the series know that Will Smith portrays Mike Lowery, and Martin Lawrence portrays Marcus Burnett, two police officers from Miami. Interestingly, the pair of actors were actually awarded honorary memberships of the Miami Police Department, a report from BET revealed.

On Twitter, the MPD stated both actors received the “key to the city,” and were also named Honorary police officers from the Mayor, Francis Suarez, and from the chief, Jorge Colina. The Twitter post went on to say that both men were “always welcome here in Miami.”

As most know, the first Bad Boys came out in 1995 and was a huge hit at the box office, going on to earn $140 million. Back in 1995, $140 million at the box office on a significantly smaller budget was considered a massive success.

Moreover, analysts have estimated that the next installment of the series will be a hit as well, with some experts claiming it could earn around $40 million in its opening weekend. As it was noted above, Will and Martin have been very busy promoting the new movie.

Suzy Kerr reported earlier this month that Will actually appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to promote the movie. Not only did he perform a rap with the host about the beginning of his career, but he also talked about why it took so long to make.

Fans of the series know that it’s been 17 years since they last released a Bad Boys movie. According to Smith, it was of paramount importance to both actors to not just make another movie similar to the first two. In other words, Smith didn’t want it to come off as just another “cash grab.”

Furthermore, Will spoke about some of the other sequels he worked in that he didn’t enjoy, including the Men In Black sequel. According to Entertainment Weekly, Men In Black III was the one he was likely referring to.
