Ambitious Newcastle swoop

Newcastle might scupper Chelsea’s hopes of signing Moussa Dembele this month if Steve Bruce gets his way and Mike Ashley stumps up the cash for the in-demand Lyon striker.

Express Sport understands Frank Lampard and Manchester United counterpart Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are interested in bringing Dembele back to the UK, where he’s previously shone for Fulham and Celtic.

However, with Newcastle not yet clear of relegation danger, Bruce wants to add some fire-power to his Toon side and has got Dembele in his sights.

The Daily Star report St James’ Park boss Bruce would ‘love’ to compete for Dembele before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.

Dani Olmo U-turn

Barcelona are no longer interested in signing £34m-rated Dinamo Zagreb winger Dani Olmo.

And that’s good news for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, who are eager to sign the one-cap Spanish international.

The Catalan giants were leading Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign the 21-year-old attacking talent.

But Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona have withdrawn their interest – handing the Premier League duo a free run at completing a deal for Olmo.

Fabian Ruiz latest

New boss Quique Setien once blocked Barcelona’s approach for Fabian Ruiz, Mundo Deportivo report.

The Spanish champions, along with rivals Real Madrid and Manchester United, have been linked with £86million-rated Ruiz over the past several months.

But Barcelona could have snapped him up for a paltry £850,000 in 2017.

Setien was a big fan of Ruiz during their time together at Real Betis and personally blocked Barcelona’s approach for the midfielder before his £25m transfer to Napoli the following year.

John Stones to Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has identified the man he wants to make his first signing as Gunners chief.

The Spaniard apparently wants Manchester City outcast John Stones to join this month.

The Englishman has only started nine league games, and was left out of five of the last six match-day squads.

As a result, it appears he is willing to leave the Etihad after three-and-a-half years, according to The Sun.
