Rafael Nadal serious concern raised after ATP Cup decision ahead of Australian Open

Rafael Nadal surprisingly played no part in the deciding doubles match between Spain and Serbia in the ATP Cup final and Lindsay Davenport is concerned it could spell trouble for his hopes at the Australian Open. Spain missed out on the international team double after losing to Djokovic’s Serbia in the final.

Roberto Bautista Agut had put Spain in the driver’s seat after defeating Dusan Lajovic in straight sets in the first singles match.

Then the top two players in the world went toe-to-toe in the second singles match, with Djokovic coming out on top without dropping a set.

It meant the final would go to a deciding doubles match with Nadal expected to take part, only for the world No 1 to withdraw at the last minute.

Speaking after his loss to Djokovic, Nadal explained how past exertions in the tournament had drained his energy levels.
