PS5 news for 2020 release date coming soon but not during E3

New reports today suggest that Sony will be skipping E3 2020 and hosting its own events. The latest suggests that PS5 news will be shared by the company over the coming months but that won’t include the LA expo. It’s expected that Sony will announce its plans to skip E3 2020 soon, although we don’t have a set time or date to expect it. Some analysts are suggesting it will happen today, January 13, but there is no guarantee a statement will be released.

Rumours of an imminent PS5 reveal were sparked today following news of a PlayStation Experience being held in New York.

The Experience PlayStation event starts on January 14, 2020, and will end on February 16, 2020.

It will be open between 12:00pm to 7:00pm EST and it is being used to “Celebrate 25 Years of Play with a collection of titles on PS4 and PS VR.”

As you can see, there is no mention of a big PS5 reveal coming soon or being hosted during these dates. It also lines up with how Sony has showcased and celebrated its gaming division in New York before.

However, earlier rumours suggested that Sony would be hosting a PS5 reveal in New York in early February.

So there is always the chance that something could pop up in the coming weeks for PlayStation gamers.

Even if Sony does hold an event in the coming months, there’s no guarantee fans will learn everything about the PS5 in one go.

Reveals have been spaced out since the console was confirmed to be in development and that could be Sony’s plans for the future too.

CES 2020 saw Sony reveal the PS5 logo and little bits of information were shared through articles in 2019.

If an event is held in February for the PS5, we would expect to finally get a look at the new console and perhaps learn more about what it could do.

But the price and release date may not be confirmed until later in 2020, closer to the end of the year.

NASDAQ recently shared its views on which company might win the next console war in a post online, with the PS5 facing off against the Xbox Series X.

From this early outset, it appears that Sony’s PS5 is the favourite to come out on top, based on the PS4’s larger install base.

But things could change if Microsoft prepares to drop its price on the Xbox Series X.

“Sony has beaten Microsoft over the past three console generations, with the PS2, PS3, and PS4 all outselling the Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, respectively,” the latest NASDAQ report explains.

“Therefore, Sony will likely maintain its leadership position with the PS5 unless Microsoft drastically undercuts its price or secures more compelling launch titles.

“Yet that doesn’t necessarily mean that Microsoft’s gaming business will falter. Microsoft’s gaming business generated robust growth over the past six years even though it couldn’t match Sony’s reach — and it will likely remain one of the company’s core growth engines with the launch of the Xbox Series X.”
