Iran’s ‘internal crisis’ exposed by foreign affairs expert amid British ambassador arrest

The Conservative MP said Mr Macaire had been drawing attention to the Iran plane crash which killed four Britons. Iran shot down the plane by mistake killing 176 people on board, including many Iranians. The crash has sparked protests within Iran which Mr Tugendhat referred to as an internal crisis during an interview with Julia Hartley-Brewer on talkRADIO.

Mr Tugendhat said: “The real crisis here is an internal one because why was the British ambassador arrested?

“He wasn’t arrested because of anything he was doing.

“He was arrested because he was connected to an incident the Iranian government sees as hugely threatening.

“Which are these protests about the Iranian government shooting down its own citizens.

“You can understand why that causes enormous anger in Iran.”

Many of the crowd cheer the protester on as they continue to try and take down the flag.

The protester then begins jumping up and down on the flag and the poster of Soleimani eventually falls when the protester drags it to the ground.

During the demonstrations chants calling for the “death of the dictator” were heard, as well as shouts of “Khamenei have shame. Leave the country.”

The footage was posted on Twitter by Iran Nuclear Program expert Hossein Abedini.

Mr Abedini captioned the video: “The free world should admire this extraordinary bravery of #Iran protesters and advocates of appeasement and apologists of the mullahs must be ashamed of themselves and stop supporting the brutal regime of the ayatollahs and mourn for mass murderer #QassemSoleimani #IranProtests.”
