World War 3 fears escalated after US President Donald Trump killed Qassem Soleimani in an airstrike in Iraq which sparked protests in Iran. The country then fired 15 ballistic missiles at US Air Base Al-Assad in Iraq. Journalist George Galloway believes the heightening tensions mean Iran will start building nuclear weapons.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Galloway said: “I believe they have a religious Fatwa against it going back to Ayatollah Khamenei, they made several religious Fatwa’s saying that possession of nuclear weapons was sacrilege because these weapons are unlimited in space and time.
“But I think one of the takeaways from what’s happened in the last few days is that they better get themselves a nuclear weapon quite quickly.
“No one can stop them.
“As Admiral Lord West said recently, ‘America would need a million soldiers to invade and occupy Iran.

“If they don’t invade and occupy it, you can’t stop them from developing a nuclear weapon and so I believe they will now quickly do so.”
It comes as the former Scottish politician argued the Middle East country of Bahrain could be the next target of Iran.
Mr Galloway explained attacking Bahrain will be taken as an attack to Saudi Arabia as well as the US’ 7th fleet and the latest deployed British Navy base.
Speaking on his RT show. he said: “I have no internal information on this, of course, but I do know about military and political events.
“But here’s the rob: the US 7th fleet is based in Bahrain as is, thanks to the Government of Theresa May, a brand new British naval base, where naval assets from both countries shelter.”
Iraq’s parliament voted on Sunday in favour of a non-binding resolution calling for the expulsion of the American forces.
Donald Trump said the US would not leave without being paid for its military investments in Iraq over the years – then said if the troops do have to withdraw, he would hit Baghdad with economic penalties.
“We will charge them sanctions like they’ve never seen before ever. It’ll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame,” he said.
“If there’s any hostility, that they do anything we think is inappropriate, we are going to put sanctions on Iraq, very big sanctions on Iraq. We’re not leaving until they pay us back for it.”
