Vanessa Bauer injury: What's happened to Dancing on Ice 2020 star? Will she return?

Dancing on Ice 2020 continues this evening (Sunday, January 12) on ITV as the second set of stars take to the ice. The show will also see its first elimination when one contestant will be given the boot. Even before the show airs tonight though, there’s been drama on the ice after one professional was left badly injured and forced to rest.

What happened to Vanessa Bauer on Dancing on Ice?

Dancing on Ice skating professional Vanessa Bauer had to sit out of this evening’s show after getting injured.

The star was busy training ahead of the professionals’ group routine when she lost her balance on the ice and smashed headfirst onto the side of the ice rink.

She posted a video on social media of the moment she fell and crashed into the wall on Instagram with her 163,000 followers.

Along with the clip, she wrote: “THAT just happened I literally thought I broke my face.

“After banging my head into the wall I feel fine but @itv is super cautious and really takes care of us skaters which is why I went through SO many tests. ⁣

“Although I feel ok I am not allowed to skate this weekend. For the sake of my health I have to rest my brain.”

She continued: “I am GUTTED but at least @realperrikiely are not competing this week anyways! He will still be part of the group numbers like everybody else so I’m wishing everybody the best of luck and an incredible show!⁣

“@realperrikiely and I will be back for the next week.”

She added: “As funny as I thought my fall was, head injuries are no joke and the consequences can be very serious.⁣ #dancingonice.”

So it looks like Vanessa is only going to be on the bench resting up this week before making a return to the ice for the next episode.

Performing for the first time this week will be Caprice Bourret and Hamish Gaman, Lucrezia Millarini and Brendyn Hatfield, Radzi Chinyanganya and Jessica Hatfield, Maura Higgins and Alexander Demetriou, Kevin Kilbane and Brianne Delcourt, and Libby Clegg and Mark Hanretty.

The show has already been dogged with injuries after Michael Barrymore was forced to pull out after the Christmas launch when he broke his hand.

He was later replaced by former Blue Peter presenter Radzi.

Dancing on Ice airs on ITV on Sundays at 6pm
