Van de Beek blunder

Manchester United may miss out on the signing of Ajax’s Donny van de Beek as Real Madrid are said to be closing in on the Dutch international.

The Mirror are reporting that Real are more than 80 per cent certain to nab Van de Beek’s signature for round £46m.

But United had the chance to sign the 22-year-old forward in the summer for £20m. The Red Devils turned that opportunity down, though.

Express Sport understands that United had turned their attention to Van de Beek this month after being told by Leicester City that a deal for James Maddison wouldn’t happen during the January window.

United move for youngster 

Manchester United have reportedly moved to sign Birmingham youngster Jude Bellingham, according to the Mirror.

The Red Devils have offered an eight-figure package to ensure that Bellingham signs for United – possibly this month.

Bellingham isn’t rushing to leave boyhood club Birmingham, however, and the Championship side won’t be pressured into selling the youngster.

The 16-year-old has scored three times in 23 appearances this season for Birmingham and has impressed for Birmingham, despite the club sitting 18th in the Championship.

Spurs beat Chelsea to 21-year-old

Tottenham are set to announce the signing of Gedson Fernandes, a blow to Chelsea, who are thought to have made a loan bid for him earlier this week.

The deal that Chelsea are said to have put forward is an 18-month loan with an obligation to buy Fernandes for £55million.

But the 21-year-old will now join Spurs on loan, according to the Mirror.

West Ham were also in for Fernandes’ signature, as were Manchester United.

But it appears that Jose Mourinho has made his first signing as Tottenham boss, with Fernandes set to be announced next week.

Calhanoglu loan

According to the Mirror, Arsenal are considering moving for AC Milan winger Hakan Calhanoglu.

The 25-year-old has notched just to goals this season but he is thought to be keen to move away from Milan and wants the transfer to the Gunners.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta would like to add attacking options to his current roster at Arsenal but he knows that it will be hard to coax say Europe’s top targets for big fees.

The deal would be a loan as Arsenal do not have the money to spend this January after spending close to £130million last summer.

Sporting need the money 

O Jogo editor-in-chief Filipe Dias says that Sporting Lisbon need the money from a potential Fernandes deal.

“The situation has changed since last summer,” he told the Transfer Talk podcast. “They didn’t accept a deal with Tottenham for €70m but that would have been paid with €40m upfront and then another €30m.

“Now Sporting will accept 70m Euros, but paid in instalments. United is a club that Bruno Fernandes really likes in England, it’s a club that he really wants to play for.

“Talks have been intensified in the last couple of days, so we’re kind of expecting that it might be close.”

Bruno Fernandes latest

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claim that Bruno Fernandes will move to Manchester United in the coming days.

Fernandes scored for Sporting Lisbon yesterday and appeared emotional at the final whistle, with many holding the belief that it could have been his last game for the club.

It’s been reported that Fernandes has been offered to United for around £60million – the fee which Tottenham had turned down in the summer.

Fernandes has scored 13 goals and registered 13 assists in 24 games this season for Sporting.

The Athletic are reporting that United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer flew to Portugal to watch Fernandes in action a week ago.

Eriksen goodbye 

Christian Eriksen appeared to say his Tottenham goodbyes at the final whistle of Spurs’ Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday evening.

The Dane has been unhappy at Spurs since the summer and has pushed for a move away since then. He’s thought to be of interest from Inter Milan.

Eriksen played poorly against Liverpool and received a mixed reaction as he was subbed off the pitch by manager Jose Mourinho.

Eriksen’s contract is up in the summer, when he could leave the club for free. Tottenham are likely to cash in on him before the January transfer window is up.
