Vikings season 6: Why did Hvitserk kill Lagertha? What did the serpent vision mean?

Ivar has committed some atrocious acts against his brothers and Hvitserk is suffering most with the consequences of Ivar’s actions.

Therefore, for a serpent to symbolise Ivar is not completely wrong as Hvitserk does see him as truly evil.

Katheryn Winnick who plays Lagertha spoke to TV Line about what is next in store for her character’s killer.

She said: “[What happens to Hvitserk comes out in] the episode I directed [episode eight]. It definitely weighs on him.

“Hvitserk always admired Lagertha, and he didn’t necessarily want to ever be the enemy, but he’s just so messed up.

“And I got to give Marco [Ilsø] a lot of credit. He did a great job acting because it’s not easy to be in that state for so long and he did that really well.

“I’m glad it was Hvitserk in the end that killed Lagertha, and not Ivar or Bjorn or Ubbe.

“I didn’t imagine any of them doing it, and Hvitserk was the one that was least expected to do it.”

Vikings season 6 airs Wednesdays on History and Thursdays on Amazon Prime Video.
