Geneva Airport evacuated: 'Bomb alert' at major Swiss airport – flight chaos

Travellers took to Twitter to share videos and photos of crowds being herded out of the building, with one person saying security personnel were investigating an “unattended bag”. Some of those rushed out of the Swiss airport blamed staff for a lack of information which resulted in “chaos”. One woman wrote: “No idea what’s happening but been evacuated from @GenevaAirport!” 

Another passenger said: “Geneva airport has been evacuated due to an apparent unattended bag.

“Immense chaos, at an airport that’s unable to cope in ‘normal’ conditions.”

And a third person said: “Geneva Airport evacuated, apparently there’s an unattended bag and they’re worried it might be a bomb.” 

Another traveller posted footage of hundreds of people and their luggage stationed outside the airport. 

She said: “Carnage at Geneva Airport as building evacuated after an unattended bag and bomb scare. 

“Zero information given and crowds left panicked.”

He posted a video of people heading through terminal doors with thier bags, saying: “Update: we’re back in.” 

Geneva is the second-largest city in Switzerland and a popular tourist destination. 

During winter months, the airport is an important hub for those heading to and from skiing holidays. 

The incident comes just days after passengers at the same airport were evacuated after reports of an abandoned suitcase. 

On Sunday travellers were hit with disruption when the baggage was reportedly left at a check-in counter. 

Pictures posted on social media showed police officers holding megaphones outside a terminal and directing the crowds.
