Sainsbury's food recall as product contains undeclared peanuts – all batches affected

The supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has released an urgent warning to customers amid allergy fears. Food recalls are not often issued but something that consumers should take seriously. The items contained allergens, including peanuts and prawns, that are not mentioned on the label.

The supermarket chain has recalled a number of their own brand pesto products as these contain peanuts.

The Food Standards Agency website said: “Sainsbury’s is recalling various pesto products listed below because they may contain peanuts, which are not mentioned on the label.

“This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.”

Anyone with a peanut allergy or intolerance should check for the product in their homes and ensure they do not consume it.

DON’T MISS

Those who have bought the products are being urged not to eat them and instead return them to store for a full refund.

Sainsbury’s have issued point-of-sale notices to customers with more information on the recall.

They have stated people can also contact the relevant allergy helpline to get advice if necessary.

The supermarket has also warned about an undeclared ingredient in their own brand Gyoza product.

Customers who have bought the item can return it to the store it was bought for a full refund.

When a problem is spotted in a food product, it can be withdrawn, and taken off the shelves, or recalled.

This will happen when the item poses a possible health risk to consumers, such as when there is incorrect allergy labelling.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We are recalling the by Sainsbury’s green, lighter green, red, chilli and spinach and ricotta pesto as it has been brought to our attention that the product may contain traces of peanuts. We’re apologising to customers and asking them to return the product to their nearest store for a full refund.”
