Kate Middleton – all the times Her Royal Highness has borrowed jewellery from the Queen

As the wife of Prince William, who is second in line to the British throne, Kate Middleton, is allowed to wear exquisite items from the Royal collection of jewellery.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who celebrates her 38th birthday today, is regularly lent precious jewellery from Her Majesty the Queen for important royal engagements such as state banquets at Buckingham Palace and on royal tours.

The 93-year-old Monarch has an incredible collection of earrings, necklaces, brooches and, of course, tiaras to loan to her family.

Take a look at the magnificent items of jewellery Kate has worn over the years.

On her wedding day in 2011, Kate wore the stunning Cartier Halo Tiara which was a gift to the Queen on her 18th birthday.

The exquisite item was the first tiara we saw the Duchess wear, however, many more have followed.

During a State Banquet in 2018 the mum-of-three teamed Queen Alexandra’s wedding gift necklace with the Lover’s Knot tiara – a favourite of her mother-in-law, the late Princess Diana.

In 2015, Kate wore the Lotus Flower Tiara for the Chinese State Banquet.

The jewellery was originally a necklace purchased from Garrard and reworked into the tiara we see today.

When the King and Queen of Spain visited Queen Elizabeth II in 2017, they were invited to a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace which was attended by the Duchess of Cambridge.

Kate wore her favourite Lover’s Knot Tiara with an eye-catching necklace for the traditional gala dinner.

Her Royal Highness wore the Ruby and Diamond Floral Bandeau Necklace (See on the Queen in the below picture) for the royal event.

In 2017, the Duchess of Cambridge borrowed the Queen’s four strand pearl choker to celebrate Her Majesty and Prince Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary.

Kate has also been seen in the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace which was given to the Monarch as a wedding gift.

Kate, who mum to Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one, often attend events which require a more pared back look.

Back in 2015, the royal wore a pair of beautiful diamond and sapphire fringe earrings which were often worn by the Queen Mother.

When the occasion called for a more glamorous look, the Duchess opted for a pair of large teardrop diamond earrings.

The Queen wore the same jewellery in 2012 during the State Opening of Parliament.

Queen Elizabeth II is very fond of adding interest to an outfit with a pretty brooch.

These are always carefully selected to suit the event perfectly.

During her numerous royal tours, Kate has taken inspiration from the Queen and followed suit.

Shortly after her wedding to Prince William, 37, the brunette beauty wore Her Majesty’s diamond maple leaf brooch during a trip to Canada.

A few years later in 2014, she embellished her red coat dress with an elegant fern brooch during a royal tour of New Zealand.

The silver fern is the national plant of the Commonwealth country.
