Game of Thrones end: Did horrifying Book 2 scene reveal Varys KNEW how he would die?

After five or six almost flawless seasons, The HBO show began to slowly lose the plot. Perhaps because it no longer had George RR Martin’s actual plots to draw from. Fans now face the extraordinary prospect of reading books where they know the major endings but are told many of the secondary plotlines will be different. They are hoping for some resolutions for popular characters who were rather shoddily treated by the ending of the HBO adaptation.

In Season Eight, the most careful and cunning man in Westeros and probably Essos appeared to make catastrophic and indiscrete errors.

Rather as the extremely clever Littlefinger was inexplicably outwitted by Sansa and Arya, Varys acted completely out of character and exposed his own treason against Daenerys and paid a fiery price.

The only possible way to redeem this storyline is to reveal it was preordained by what he heard in the fires…

The HBO show reveals a scene with Red Priested Kinvara.

She tells him: “‘Terrible things happen for a reason. Take what happened to you, Lord Varys, when you were a child.

“If not for your mutilation at the hand of a second rate sorcerer, you wouldn’t be here…knowledge has made you powerful but there’s still so much you don’t know. “

“Do you remember what you heard that night when the sorcerer tossed your parts into the fire? You heard a voice call out from the flames….Should I tell you what the voice said?”

This reveals the key point that Varys apparently does not know what the voice said.

Whether he could not hear clearly or it was in some foreign or demon tongue, The Spider does not actually know what is woven at the end of his web.

Hopefully, this means the rather rushed and unsatisfactory ending shown on the screen will be completely different and far more clever, as befits the master of spies and ‘little birds.’
