Joker home release: When is Joker out on DVD and Blu-ray? Is it available to watch online?

Joaquin Phoenix has just bagged a Golden Globe for his role in Joker. He plays Arthur Fleck, the failed stand-up comedian who is depressed and desperate for change. For DC Comics fans, this film is a real triumph – but when can they take it home to watch?

When is Joker available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray?

Joker is available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray from January 7, meaning it is perfect for an after-Christmas treat.

The film is also able to buy as a 4K Ultra HD disc, meaning those with an epic cinema-esque home viewing system will truly get the big screen experience.

Of course, many with little storage space will be concerned about buying the film as a hard copy, and would prefer to watch the movie online.

Is Joker available to stream or download online?

Generally speaking, any website claiming to have the film for streaming or download is illegal.

The Digital Economy Act 2017 means people could now face ten-year prison sentences for illegally streaming copyrighted content.

To be sure you’re not watching copyrighted material, you should go direct to companies such as Netflix or Amazon Prime, according to FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft).

Luckily for Joker fans, Amazon Prime is hosting the movie on their rent/download system, meaning fans can hook their laptops up to their TV to get a look at the latest DC Comics movie.

The movie is already on the site, so fans can get a look in to watch it now.

Of course, fans may be extra keen to see Joker given its recent success at the Golden Globes, where the star Joaquin Phoenix took home to gong for Best Actor.

Accepting the award, Phoenix spoke out about his beliefs in climate change, though his words weren’t the most controversial moment of the acceptance.

The most controversial came when a nearby star, Beyonce, failed to stand for Phoenix despite the room giving him a standing ovation when he took to the stage to get his award.

Speaking to the assembled stars, Phoenix said: “First, I’d like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press, for recognising and acknowledging the link between animal agriculture and climate change.

“It’s a very bold move making tonight plant-based, and it really sends a powerful message.”

This refers to the Golden Globes making their entire banquet vegan.

He continued: “To my fellow nominees, we all know… it’s like this thing which is created to sell advertisement for the TV show.

“I’m inspired by you… I know people say this but I really do feel honoured to be mentioned with you [his fellow nominees.]

“Some of you I reached out to personally. Some I’m still a little too intimidated by, even though we share the same agent. Hi, Christian [Bale]. Uh, you’re not here.”

“Todd. You were such an amazing friend and operator and you convinced me to do this movie and you encouraged me to give everything and to be sincere and I’m such pain in the ass.

“I can’t believe you put up with me I’m so indebted to you. Rooney [Mara, his fiancee], I love you.

“Contrary to popular belief, I don’t want to rock the boat, but the boat needs to be f***ing rocked…

“I have not always been a virtuous man. I’m learning so much and so many of you in the room have given me multiple opportunities to try and get this right, but hopefully together we can be united and make some changes…

“We don’t have to take private jets to Palm Springs for the awards sometimes, or back. Please, and I’ll try to do better, I hope you will too.”
