Holly Willoughby tells Phillip Schofield ‘don’t be that man’ in frank NTAs conversation

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield shocked viewers when they presented This Morning wearing the same clothes they’d worn to the National Television Awards 2016 the night before. And now the ITV duo have recalled the phone conversation they had when the former attempted to make his way home.

Speaking in a new documentary set to air tomorrow evening, the presenters reflect on what really happened as the NTAs marks its 25th anniversary.

After being a shown a clip of them opening the live instalment looking a little worse for wear, Phillip, 57, insinuated it was all down to Holly, 38.

He recalled: “I got a phone call from Holly saying ‘Where are you?’ I said, ‘I’m on my way home’.”

But the mother-of-three did not accept his answer, as he continued: “She said, ‘Don’t be that man’.”

Holly then stated: “But the thing is, I said, ‘One day you’ll be at home and you’ll be watching the NTAs, and you‘ll say, oh I won one of those once’.

“You have to… It’s a huge moment in your life.”

Phillip added: “Yeah but we’d won a few! We were here on the very ragged edge, about as far as you can go without falling off!”

That year This Morning had taken home the gong for Best Live Magazine Show at the 21st instalment of the Awards.

“We’re in a proper mess,” Phillip went on, as the pair giggled away.

Holly said: “I mean really, we can only apologise. But thank you so much for making this happen – it really does mean the absolute world to us.”

“As you can tell,” he laughed and she quipped: “We celebrated on behalf of each and every one of you.”

Meanwhile, the pair were back in the weekday ITV offering today, after enjoying a break over Christmas.
