Man Utd chief Ed Woodward forced to change transfer plans and targets third-choice striker

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward is chasing Wolves striker Raul Jimenez, bit he is third-choice on the list of striker transfer targets the Red Devils had. Missing out on Erling Haaland to Borussia Dortmund was the first thing that made Ole Gunnar Solskjaer look elsewhere.

“The transfer window is open – when it’s open anything can happen,” Santo added.

United had been linked for months with Haaland – one of the hottest prospects currently in Europe.

But the 19-year-old explained why he chose Dortmund as his next club after snubbing the likes of United and Juventus.

He said: “I had intensive discussions with the club management and the sports management, especially with Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc and trainer Lucien Favre.

“There was a feeling right from the start that I absolutely wanted to switch to this club, go this route and play football in this incredible Dortmund atmosphere in front of more than 80,000 spectators.

“I’m already burning for it.”

United are next in action against Manchester City on Tuesday in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Solskjaer gave an injury update on Harry Maguire following the 0-0 draw with Wolves in which the central defender struggled to make it through.

“I don’t know,” the boss said, when asked by BT Sport whether Maguire would be fit for the Carabao Cup tie.

“We were close to taking him off at half-time, but he battled through. Let’s see how he recovers. We hope so.“

He added: “We were not sure if he should continue in the second half, but he was adamant he was going to be OK.

“He struggled a little bit but let’s see how he’ll recover. It’s not many days, it’s Sunday, Monday and then we go again Tuesday.”
