Golden Globes 2020: Year of sheer – Gwyneth Paltrow leads see-through top brigade

Gwyneth Paltrow wore the most daring dress of the night, a totally sheer mocha brown dress with matching underwear beneath it. The dress, by Fendi, showed off the Goop creators incredible body, her abs and the entirety of her bottom could be seen from behind.

“Confused in that I can’t decide if I love it or hate it.”

But one style critic had their mind made up.

“Not a fan of Gwyneth’s look, and the necklace through the sheer dress just doesn’t work,” one said.

Another joked: “When one crochets one’s own bra, covering it up with sheer curtains is just a crime.”

But many were noticing the trend went beyond just Gwyneth’s conversation starting look.

One wrote: “Once again the red carpet trends are including ‘1970s prairie dress in an improbable fabric’, ‘normal dress but the top is a semi-sheer bustier thingie’.”

Another said: “I’m getting the feeling that sheer clothing is back.”

A number of other actresses chose interesting chest detail when it came to their gowns.

Cate Blanchett, 50, went bold in a yellow Mary Katrantzou dress, with a crystal covered bodice cupping her chest.

Kerry Washington too, 42, was hardly a wallflower when it came to her look.

She wore an Altuzarra blazer and skirt, leaving her chest entirely bare expert for some extreme rope-inspired body jewellery.

Rooney Mara, 34, wore Givenchy, and the dress featured a lace bodice, while Charlize Theron’s acid green gown featured an exposed, sheer black bodice.

Rachel Bilson, 38, wore a pretty black dress with a sheer lace bodice to walk the red carpet, simultaneously going public for the very first time with her new boyfriend Bill Hader.
