What Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Man Utd chiefs will prioritise in transfer talks today

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly talking to Old Trafford chiefs today regarding transfers with Erling Braut Haaland alternatives the priority. United appeared to be in a good position to sign Haaland however he chose to join Borussia Dortmund instead.

Solskjaer is short when it comes to attacking options with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood the recognised strikers at Old Trafford.

Haaland would have increased Solskjaer’s options though the young forward instead moved into the Bundesliga.

The Sun claim Solskjaer will today talk with United chiefs and the Red Devils manager will focus on his alternative options to Haaland.

He is due to chat with assistant Mike Phelan, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, as well as head negotiator Matt Judge.

Solskjaer is open to making signings this month though insists he will only do so if they are right for the club.

The United boss said: “We’re still looking and as I’ve said so many times we have our targets if they become available and if it’s something we want to do.

“If the right ones aren’t there, then they aren’t.

“You can see the squad and sometimes you think, yeah, one or two additions would do nicely because we are building towards something.

“It just depends on if what we think will be right for us will be available.”

Solskjaer recently opened up on his failed move for Haaland.

Asked about the transfer after United’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal, the boss said: “Dortmund have signed a fantastic boy and I can’t answer more than that.”

Dortmund were able to land Haaland for just €20million (£17m), with an exit clause in his Red Bull Salzburg contract being triggered.

Haaland’s representative Mino Raiola has claimed that a move to United was never near.

He said: “The club that he had the most direct contact with him was United.

“They spoke to him the most. Everybody had the chance to talk to him in person. We let that happen especially when he knows Ole.

“Clearly he felt that at this moment it was not the right step in his career. There is nothing against Manchester United or Ole.

“He chose Borussia Dortmund ahead of them and other clubs and I’m very happy because he is going to the club he wanted to go to and that is best for him right now.”
