Hillary Clinton tipped for surprise second election run against Donald Trump

British writer and political commentator Gerard Baker made the surprising prediction in his column for The Times today. As Mr Baker points out there is an outside chance that more than three candidates could remain in the race for candidacy by Super Tuesday in March, when more delegates for candidate nominations can be selected than at any other time in the primaries process.

This means that by June, the Democratic Party could be without a majority holding candidate, leading to a chaotic stalemate just months before election campaigns begin.

This, according to Mr Baker, could open the door for a shock challenge by Mrs Clinton, who hasn’t denied that she would consider a second contest with Mr Trump.

In mid November, the former First Lady was asked during a BBC Radio interview if she was “100 percent” certain she would not run again, to which she refused to say for definite that she would not.

Mrs Clinton said she thinks “all the time about what kind of president I would have been, and what I would have done differently, and what I think it would have meant to our country and the world.

“So of course, I think about it. I think about it all the time.

“I will certainly tell you, I’m under enormous pressure from many, many, many people to think about it.

“But as of this moment, sitting here in this studio talking to you, that is absolutely not in my plans.”

At this point, a member of the audience exclaimed “You!” to which Mrs Clinton simply said “oh my… well, thank you”.

As things stand, Joe Biden is comfortably ahead with a national polling average of 27 percent.

Next best is Bernie Sanders with 19 percent, while Elizabeth Warren is in third on 16 percent having been near the top earlier in the race.

Mrs Clinton failed to take the White House even after winning the popular vote against Mr Trump in 2016, so if she were to become the Democrat candidate this time round, it would certainly be a huge gamble.
