Ivanka Trump is a 'terrible choice' – Donald Trump’s daughter faces outrage for new role

The First Daughter has been selected to speak at the CES show in Las Vegas. The show has been accused of overlooking the role of women in technology and therefore decided to select Ivanka.

Despite the selection, some have criticised the appointment due to Ivanka’s lack of experience in the technology industry.

Technology commentator, Rachel Solar labelled the appointment as “terrible” as she insisted there were much better candidates available.

She added: “This is a terrible choice on so many levels but also – what an insult to the years and years of protesting how few women were invited to keynote & being told it was a pipeline problem while similarly-situated men were elevated.

“There are so many great, qualified women. Shame.”

Formally known as Consumer Electronics Show, the CES announced the news this week.

Ivanka will join a discussion on jobs and the future alongside Gary Shapiro, the CEO of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA).

In a statement, the First Daughter said: “I am excited to join this year for a substantive discussion on the how the government is working with private-sector leaders to ensure American students and workers are equipped to thrive in the modern, digital economy.”

Following Ms Solar’s criticism, Cindy Chin, chief executive of the consultancy CLC Advisors also highlighted Ivanka’s lack of experience in the industry.

Another user said: “What a joke & insult.

“You mean to tell me there isn’t someone else in the country that at least has tech skills?”

The outrage for the First Daughter came after she was criticised over her claims on the US economy.

Ivanka currently acts as a senior adviser to her father and last month congratulated Mr Trump over his Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Tweeting to her followers, Ivanka wrote of her joy that 39.4 million people would benefit from the tax credit.

She said: “Today marks 2 years since POTUS signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Our pro-family, anti-poverty reforms are lifting all Americans!

“Thanks to President @realdonaldtrump 39.4 MILLION families will benefit from the Child Tax Credit in 2019 receiving an average of over $2,200!”

However, some pointed out how the bill had not helped them at all.

One person said: “I live in Wisconsin, a high tax state.

“Dropping the SALT taxes made my taxes go up by 3 points.

“Not good for all of us. Increased debt and deficit.”
