Carrie Underwood No Longer Hosting CMAs In 2020

On Monday, Carrie Underwood, the country music singer, announced she wouldn’t be returning as the co-host of the Country Music Awards next November, following a successful 12-year run starting eleven years ago in 2008.

On her Instagram account, Carrie wrote it was “hard to imagine what we have accomplished together,” but she decided it was best to move on from her position as the co-host of the CMAs. Reportedly, Carrie’s departure from the role comes at a time when CMAs are declining in ratings like many other prime-time awards shows.

Previously, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood shared the stage at the 2008 CMA Awards. Underwood went on to work alongside Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton for the 2019 show that was dedicated to celebrating women in the industry.

Reportedly, the trio of women helped boost ABC’s ratings by approximately 12% from the previous year. In her Instagram post, Underwood addressed the ratings-boosting-combination, stating it was one of her greatest honors.

Following her IG post, the CMA wrote in response that they loved Carrie and she would always be like family to her. During a conversation with Robert Deaton, Variety reported that he was thrilled to see Carrie back in 2020, but unfortunately, it never came to be.

According to Deaton, they didn’t need to bring the theme of “women” back to the awards show to introduce the trio once again. In the middle of November, Deaton claimed he would’ve loved to see them back on the stage again, “personally,”

Currently, Underwood is getting ready to drop her brand new book, Find Your Path, in March 2020. She also finished her 60-arena tour in October, following the September 2018 release of her latest album, Cry Pretty.

At the American Music Awards this year, her record scored the favorite country album award, making it the 6th time in a row she’s picked up the honor. Moreover, she won another accolade for the favorite female country artist at the same ceremony.
