Snapchat fans are facing New Year’s Eve 2020 without access to the popular messaging service.
Things appear to have begun going wrong at around 11.50pm BST tonight with reports of a major outage flooding in from across the world.
Independent website Down Detector has received thousands of reports that Snapchat is down.
The outage tracker monitors social mentions around certain topics to detect outages across the world.
The issues appear to be widespread with problems reported in the UK, other areas of Europe including France and Belgium with some users also affected in the US.
Fans have now taken to social media to vent their frustrations.
Speaking on forums one user said: “I logged out of my Snapchat and now it’s just not working. It keeps coming up with a blank screen with my messages and my notifications are coming through. But I can’t see them!”
And another added: “Mines just not showing any snaps but I keep getting notifications.”
Fans have also taken to social media to complain about the outage with many posting messages on Twitter.
One user tweeted, “New year and already Snapchat made me think I imagined having friends lol #snapchatdown.”
And aother said, “#snapchatdown my friends don’t get my snaps as they tell me. Pls fix this snap :)”
Snapchat has now confirmed the problems with its support page on Twitter announcing: “We’re aware some Snapchatters are having trouble using the app Hang tight, we’re working on it!”
