Pokemon Sword and Shield fans get surprise Shiny Pokedex update on Nintendo Switch

Pokemon Sword and Shield players looking to update their Pokedex with a new shiny are in luck. Chances are you haven’t been able to encounter all the Shiny variants you’ve wanted so far while exploring Galar. And the Pokemon Company are providing a helping hand over the coming days for those hoping to capture a special Gyarados.

Pokemon fans have until January 3 to enjoy a new event that started globally earlier today.

And during this short window, Sword and Shield gamers will have a much better chance of encountering shiny Magikarps.

The other added bonus for those who may already have a shiny Magikarp is that they will also collect more nuggets due to the added encounters.

So there should be something for everyone, as Nuggets can be sold for high prices at Poke Marts.

According to Nintendo, the only thing gamers will need to do is connect their Nintendo Switch console to the internet during the event.

By doing this, Pokemon Sword and Shield will be updated with the new event, giving you access to all the current bonuses and rewards.

Here’s the latest news from the Pokemon Company and Nintendo on the special New Year event:

“Kick off the new year with more Magikarp appearing in Pokémon Dens in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield for a limited time.

“The Magikarp you’ll encounter in Max Raid Battles will also have a much higher chance than normal of being Shiny, so don’t miss your opportunity to battle and catch this special Pokémon.

“To take advantage of these better odds in a Max Raid Battle, you’ll need to connect your Nintendo Switch system to the internet.

“Then, when you see a pillar of light shining from a Pokémon Den in the Wild Area, you can walk up to the Pokémon Den and interact with it to start a Max Raid Battle with a Dynamax Pokémon.

“Your chances of encountering more Shiny Magikarp in Pokémon Dens will last only from December 31 through January 3, so grab some friends and head to the Wild Area today.”

It follows other exciting Pokemon news for those who watch the ongoing Anime series.

It was recently confirmed by the Pokemon Company that Ash and Pikachu’s 21st big-screen adventure, Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us, will be available to stream on Netflix starting January 1, 2020.

Pokemon fans will be able to celebrate the New Year by joining the iconic duo as they travel to Fula City during its annual Wind Festival.

The Legendary Pokémon Lugia is expected to make an appearance, alongside the Mythical Pokémon Zeraora.

The Pokemon TV App is also being updated with the {okémon: DP Battle Dimension Episodes.

Pokemon TV is free to download and allows for unlimited viewing of the older Pokemon episodes.

“In this 11th season of Pokémon the Series, our heroes continue to work toward their goals: Ash has more Gym badges to earn, while Dawn must regain her confidence after a pair of Pokémon Contest defeats,” a message from the Pokemon Company explains.

“Both will do what they can to become better Trainers, from entering the Wallace Cup competition to attending Professor Rowan’s Pokémon Summer Academy.

“Hopefully, the new tactics they pick up will give them the tools they need to succeed against the latest plot by Pokémon Hunter J—as well as the emerging threat of Team Galactic.”
