Ivanka Trump: What her business associates really think of her revealed

Ivanka is a senior adviser to the President on womens’ issues and her husband Jared Kushner is a special adviser for Strategic Planning. However, before they joined the Trump administration, they both worked for their respective fathers’ real estate businesses – the Trump Organisation and Kushner Companies. Ivanka also had two of her own businesses that ultimately failed – a fine jewellery business and a fashion line.

Feedback about what she is like to deal with in the business world is mixed, though.

Some people are very complimentary – for example, she was praised by multiple people in Vornado when she represented her father in legal negotiations with them, according to 2019 book ‘Kushner Inc’.

One former executive told author Vicky Ward: “Ivanka was wonderfully diplomatic through the entire process.”

David Greenbaum, who was president of the New York division, later had to work with her husband Jared and apparently got into shouting matches with him over deal points and management issues.

He reportedly said in a meeting: “It would be so much better if we could deal with Ivanka.”

Felix Sater, who was Ivanka’s mentor for a while at the Trump Organisation, also had positive things to say about the woman dubbed the First Daughter.

Comparing her to her brothers Eric and Donald Jnr, Mr Sater told Mr Trump that Ivanka was the clear choice for his successor as head of the company.

He reportedly said: “I thought she was the one who can run it best.

“She’s got the biggest set of balls in the room.”

He added: “Her appearance and tenacity made Donald look at her and say ‘Wow…she knows how to get stuff for free and get her name on stuff.”

However, Ivanka also has another side to her – one that she does not show to many people.

Ms Ward wrote: “No one on the outside knew, for example, that in discussions with the West Coast-based real estate firm CIM group, which wanted to kill the licensing deal with the Trump Organisation at the Trump SoHo after taking control of the property in 2014, she would lose the softness in her voice and talk cold and menacingly, according to someone who was told about the conversations.”

Someone who had seen her in meetings told the author: “Ivanka could be very tough and she can come after you.”

Richard Mack – who is also the heir to a large real estate business – recalled a time when Ivanka made an embarrassing mistake in political lingo and did not respond well when she was corrected.

He said Ivanka insisted that ‘liberal’ and ‘libertarian’ were the same thing and “would not be dissuaded”.

When Mr Mack suggested they look it up, said gave the curt response: “I’ll take that under advisement.”

What’s more, a publicist who worked for Jared claimed that Ivanka gave excessive input into her work, commenting on minor points like the exact phrasing Jared should use to turn down interviews.

She told Ms Ward: “I just felt like I was being handled in such an icky way.”

Elizabeth Spiers, who was editor of the New York Observer, a newspaper owned by Jared, commented that both Ivanka and her husband seemed to lack intellectual curiosity.

She claimed that there was “not a book in sight” in their New York flat, although others dispute this.

All in all, Ms Ward concluded that those who worked with the pair often did not think they were too different from their fathers after all, despite being more appealing on a surface level.

She wrote: “It was felt both in the offices of the Observer and 666 Fifth Avenue that the couple was well-mannered and more self-controlled than either of their volatile fathers, but underneath the polish was a toxic mix of arrogance and ignorance.”
