Australia fires: Firefighter confirmed to have died as blazes continue into New Year’s Eve

In Victoria, eight Emergency Warnings have been issued along with a number of additional warnings across the state.

Emergency management commissioner Andrew Crisp said on Monday it was “a day we do not often see”.

He added: “Our state is dry, it is going to be very hot, it is going to be very windy.

“People get out now, if you don’t, you’ve got to stay across the conditions and listen to those warnings during the day.”
