Flights: Can you get a seat upgrade for free? A travel expert reveals all

What can passengers expect from upgraded cabins?

British Airways offers two options: Club World, which is their version of business class, and First Class.

According to the BA website, Club World offers seats that are “designed for relaxing, sleeping, or getting work done, with more space and privacy.”

Furthermore, new aircraft will boast the new Club Suite on select Dubai and Toronto services.

The website explains: “Club Suite is now available on selected flights; your own personal space to sit, sleep, work, or relax. Club Suite is the final step in our Club World investment, following on from the introduction of luxurious bedding by The White Company, a new personalised service, and a restaurant-style dining experience.”

Meanwhile, first class offers a similar style of chair, but with a little extra luxury.

Passengers travelling in BAs first class can also enjoy “Luxury meals including a new delicious à la carte menu”, an afternoon tea service, and a selection of champagnes, wines, spirits and non-alcoholic suites.

Those travelling in Virgin’s upper class can also expect a similar experience.

According to Virgin’s website: “Upper Class cabins offer roomy leather seats that double as sumptuous flatbeds, ensuring you arrive refreshed and ready for anything. We’ll offer you the finest food and drink throughout your journey, so just sit back, relax and let us look after you.”

The airline is also famed for its unique on board bar.

However, passengers should weigh up whether the cost of tickets is worth it for them.
