Slash: How Guns N' Roses star walked in on his mum with David Bowie 'I caught them naked'

Slash is best known as the lead guitarist for rock titans Guns N’ Roses. Born Saul Hudson, he is the son of American costume designer Ola Hudson, who worked for the likes of Ringo Starr, John Lennon and David Bowie, and English artist Anthony Hudson, who’s work featured on album covers for Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. Slash’s mother’s work is in the permanent collection at New York’s MoMa and her incredible career in fashion also boasted costumes for the Pointer Sisters, Janet Jackson and Diana Ross.

She met Slash’s father in London and they welcomed the future Guns N’ Roses legend in 1965.

However, her marriage was troubled and she later moved to Los Angeles.

In the mid-70s, she worked with Changes hitmaker Bowie during his period as the Thin White Duke.

In an interview with Australian radio station Triple M back in 2012, Slash said their relationship had started off professional but later developed into a romance.

“My mum started working with David professionally at first. I’m pretty sure that’s how it started,” he said. “Then it turned into some sort of mysterious romance that went on for a while after that.

“She did his wardrobe for his whole Thin White Duke period and The Man Who Fell To Earth movie that he did. She did all that and he was around for a while.”

The Guns N’ Roses star went on to reveal he had even walked in on them together when he was young.

“He was always over — they were always together. I caught them naked once,” he said.

“They had a lot of stuff going on, but my perspective was limited.

“Looking back on it, I know exactly what was going on. When I look back on that whole combination of people, I can only imagine how freaky it was,” he added.

After the story emerged, Slash admitted he was “embarrassed” about the whole situation.

“That was a very casual conversation with somebody on the phone in Australia that I had no idea was going to get blown up,” he told San Francisco’s 107.7 the Bone radio station. “It became this big headline and it was very awkward.

“I’m embarrassed because I’m sure David didn’t appreciate it,” he continued. “And my mum, rest in peace, probably wouldn’t have drug it either.”

Slash added: “All it was: they dated for a while, which is common knowledge.

“All I said was, there was one occasion where I happened to walk into the bedroom when they weren’t fully dressed. That was it.

“It wasn’t anything more lewd than that. End of story,” he clarified.

Slash’s mother, Hudson, died in 2009 after suffering from lung cancer.

Following her death, he said: “I have to share with you that she was the sweetest, warmest, most loving human being I’ve ever known (next to my grandmother on her side), as well as one of the most creative & talented.

“She was also the coolest Rock & Roll mom a Rock junkie like myself could every possibly have.”

Bowie died almost three years ago on January 10, 2016, after being diagnosed with liver cancer.
