Captain Marvel 2 UPDATE: Brie Larson speaks out on future of Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel made a killing at the box office, bringing in over $1 billion globally. It focused on Carol Danvers’ history and her rise to full power as Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) after finding herself in the midst of an intergalactic battle in the mid-‘90s. Now, actress Larson has spoken out on the next chapter, Captain Marvel 2.

While we know Captain Marvel 2 is a go, it’s unclear when exactly the sequel can be expected.

Marvel Studios have formally announced just one film post-2021: Black Panther II.

This in mind, it’s unlikely Captain Marvel will be back for a second solo movie before 2022, or likely even later.

In a new interview with Variety, Larson confirmed she hasn’t yet had filming dates cemented.

Asked if she knew when she’d be doing the next Captain Marvel film, she said: “No.

“I don’t really know what job I’m going to do next, which is very exciting,” she admitted. “I don’t even know what my life’s gonna be!”

The actress went on to address the wild ride that has been the past year, during which she appeared in both Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame.

“Most of this year, you know, I had to do the press tour,” she explained. “But then the last half of the year, I’ve just been focusing way more on just doing what I want to do that’s completely outside of my job.

“I just feel like it’s been this incubation time. Whether it’s incubation because I’m developing projects, and also incubation myself, being, like: ‘OK, I’m going to be turning 30. I’ve been working a lot. I need to just like change it up and see what’s there for me — see who I am now. And which ways that I want to grow.’”

Meanwhile, though little has come out about Captain Marvel 2 so far, we know it will be set after the events of the first film.

It’s still uncertain whether or not it will come after Endgame in the timeline.

When it comes to the cast, there’s a good chance fans will see a whole new set of faces alongside Larson.

Captain Marvel vs Ms Marvel – what’s the difference? [DETAILS]

Producer Kevin Feige, who will be back in the driving seat for Captain Marvel 2, previously hinted at the possibility of Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan appearing in the sequel.

With Ms. Marvel getting her own Disney+ series, could she make the leap to the big screen?

In the comics, Ms. Marvel is a Muslim teenage girl from Jersey City for whom Captain Marvel is an idol and role model.

When she discovers she has shape-shifting superpowers, the youngster starts to use Captain Marvel as inspiration to become her own superhero.

Last year, Feige said: “We wanted to get Captain Marvel out there first so that there is something for a young Muslim girl to get inspired by.”

“My dream would be that Ms. Marvel gets to come into play in the [Captain Marvel] sequel,” Larson said back in February, adding: “That’s the goal.”

Meanwhile, Larson also told Variety about the importance of Captain Marvel as a character, saying: “I felt the importance of creating a symbol when I was making Captain Marvel.

“But once I’m done on set filming, and then especially when the movie’s out, I am here to allow people to know that there’s an experience they can have access to if they want, but it’s not mine anymore.

“You know, and Captain Marvel’s definitely not mine anymore,” she added. “And it makes me so thrilled that it’s beyond me.”
