Frozen 2: Elsa star Idina Menzel makes HUGE claim about Disney sequel 'For the record'

Frozen 2 finally arrived in cinemas last month, six years after the first movie became an global phenomenon for Disney. The sequel followed Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) as she continued to search for answers about her identity, this time focusing on the source of her magical powers. Following the incredible success of the original was never going to be easy and, though it received some mixed reviews, the overall consensus was positive.

Frozen 2 has an impressive audience score of 77 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and smashed records at the box office, bringing in $125 million over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend.

The movie grossed over $1 billion worldwide.

Now, in a new interview on Billboard’s Pop Shop Podcast, Menzel made a huge revelation about the second film.

“I would just go on the record saying I think that this film is better than the first,” she announced. “I do, I love it, you know? … I just, I love it.”

Menzel went on to say Elsa’s big song from Frozen 2, Into The Unknown, gave her goosebumps.

“I love Let It Go, obviously,” she said, looking back to the first film.

“It’s one of the great gifts of my life to have this song and this character in my life and what it represents and how it’s allowed me to connect with audiences all over the world. It’s changed my life.

“But I actually really enjoy — except for the really high note that’s going to give me problems on a day where I have a cold — I’ve loved singing [Into the Unknown].

“It makes me wanna cry, it gives me goose bumps when I listen to the underscore of it, the rolling bass line and the rhythm and everything. I just love it,” she added.

The big question about Frozen 2 was whether or not Elsa would get a girlfriend after Let It Go cemented its place as an LGBTQ+ anthem back in 2013. Warning: spoilers ahead…

Masses of fans were keen to see Elsa find love with a woman as she continued to work out who she really was and there was even a viral social media campaign in 2016 which called for Disney to #GiveElsaAGirlfriend.

But it wasn’t to be and, instead, Frozen bosses chose to focus once again on other types of love aside from romance.

Frozen 2 saw Elsa journey to Northundra to find out the truth about her powers and, along the way, test her relationships with those around her, including her sister Anna (Kristen Bell).

In the end, as with the first movie, it wasn’t romantic love which would save the day.

Director Jennifer Lee spoke out about the decision not to have Elsa find a romantic partner this time around, telling Entertainment Tonight she and her co-director Chris Buck had done in-depth personality tests for each character.

“We found this is a woman who wasn’t ready for a relationship at all,” she said. “She’s carrying a lot of pressure and the weight of her kingdom on her shoulders and struggling with this calls or her powers.

“That’s where she was, so, for us, it really hadn’t come up in terms of what fit with where the story was going.

“And we knew the end we want for her,” she added. “So, it just didn’t fit with where she was in her life.”

Nonetheless, there might still be hope for Elsa to get a girlfriend (or boyfriend) in the future, should there be another sequel.

“I don’t know if it’ll fit in the future,” Lee said. “We haven’t asked that question and I’m not stretching past Frozen 2 about what happens to these characters in their lives!”
