The Rise of Skywalker is out now, meaning the nine episode-spanning Skywalker saga is complete. Here is our Star Wars movie ranking from worst to best, including live-action spin-offs Rogue One and Solo. Where does The Rise of Skywalker come in the order?
11. Attack of the Clones
No surprise here. A dull, poorly acted filler in the middle of a pretty dire prequel trilogy.
It’s only redeeming feature is Yoda v Count Dooku at the end.
10. The Phantom Menace
Almost the worst, but not quite. Pod-racing and Darth Maul battling Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan at the end are fantastic.
However the Sith Lord and Jedi Master are tragically underused.

9. Revenge of the Sith
A step above the rest of the prequels, maybe Anakin’s backstory should have started here.
Some excellent storytelling in Palpatine’s manipulation of the proto-Darth Vader. Sadly, it feels too much like a TV movie rather than a blockbuster.
8. Solo
For a Star Wars spin-off with so many production problems (fired directors and mass reshoots), Solo could have turned out a lot worse.
A swashbuckling adventure through Han’s past – but does it feel Star Warsy enough?
4. The Empire Strikes Back
Often topping Star Wars movie ranking lists, Empire was a darker turn after A New Hope with its phenomenal action and who can forget that final fatherly reveal from Darth Vader?
But having rewatched the films, we just liked the other two that little bit more.
3. Return of the Jedi
A nail-biting beginning at Jabba the Hutt’s palace before the final showdown between Palpatine, Darth Vader and Luke.
An under-appreciated entry in the Skywalker saga we feel. Oh and Muppets and Ewoks make it all the better, of course.
2. Rogue One
It’s a Star Wars spin-off, but it’s just so, so good. An epic war film that pays homage to the original trilogy.
Incredible battles, a stunning third act and Darth Vader to boot. We love this movie.
1. A New Hope
What else but where it all began? A surprisingly simple story, Star Wars felt so before its time when released in 1977.
Everything about this movie marks it as one of the greatest films of all time.
