Man Utd handed major Erling Haaland transfer boost as RB Leipzig make deal admission

Solskjaer has made it a priority to sign a striker in January and he hopes United will be able to convince Haaland to make the switch to Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window.

Haaland has been in fantastic form this season and his 28 goals from just 22 appearances has attracted the attention of major clubs across Europe, including United, Juventus, Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.

And while RB Salzburg are reportedly looking for around £76million for the youngster, Mintzlaff has revealed that RB Leipzig are limited in what they can spend and offer Haaland in terms of a contract.

“Yes, we met with him. We are interested in the player, great interest,’ Mintzlaff told German broadcaster Sport1.

“And I have named the clubs that compete, and there may be salary regions that we don’t want to go into. (The fee) is still manageable, but the package does not only consist of the transfer fee.

“It’s the same cliche again: we can buy everything and we can get everything and we can do everything.

“Unfortunately, we can’t, otherwise Haaland would already be with us.”

Haaland, who is the son of former Manchester City and Leeds United player Alf-Inge Haaland, is currently earning £20,000-a-week at RB Salzburg, who he signed for in January 2019.

However, according to The Sun, United are prepared to increase Haaland’s wages to a staggering £200,000-a-week.

United see Haaland as the perfect replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who was sold to Inter Milan last summer.

The Red Devils have only scored 26 goals in 18 Premier League matches this season and extra goals from Haaland could help them reduce the seven point gap they currently have to the top-four places.

And while other managers might have to deal wth a director of football having the final say on transfers Solskjaer has revealed that at United he has the authority to ultimately decide what happens.

“I’ll always have the final say,” Solskjaer said.

“I’m not going to let any players in the door without me saying yes, definitely.

“It has to be that way. It’s a very good process and, of course, if I don’t like a player, I don’t want him here.”
