The Witcher 3 is back on Steam and it’s all Netflix’s fault

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt proved a huge hit back in 2015 and now the new TV series on Netflix has helped bring back thousands of gamers to platforms like Steam. The Steam Charts have confirmed that players are returning to The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt and it makes total sense following the launch of the new Netflix series. It’s either that, or new players are taking advantage of the game being reduced in the latest Winter Sale.

The game has seen a surge since Netflix released its new show based on The Witcher books, although there is no direct evidence to show whether this is the only reason.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt offers a massive world to explore and a huge amount of side-quests that extends the game’s overall life-cycle.

It’s easy to sink a lot into The Witcher 3 and never catch up with Ciri, although plenty have and then have moved onto the DLC available.

So the release of the new show could prove the perfect excuse to get sucked back into the world of Monster Hunting on Steam, Xbox One, Switch and PS4.

It should be noted that the game’s storyline doesn’t reflect the events of the show but there are some notable comparisons in previous Witcher games.

And it seems like the new episodes are having a very positive effect on the current Witcher numbers on Steam.

It also wouldn’t be surprising to hear that gamers on PS4 and Xbox One are doing something similar and downloading The Witcher 3 again.

The Netflix show currently includes eight episodes and has given a mixed response from reviewers.

Audience reviews of the show have been more positive and that’s always a good sign for Netflix to continue producing content.

Known collectively as the Witcher Saga, Sapkowski’s eight novels and story collections centre on “witchers” — hunters who develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle deadly monsters.

“Andrzej Sapkowski has created a rich and memorable world, at once magical and familiar,” said Erik Barmack, Netflix Vice President, international series.

“We couldn’t be more excited about bringing The Witcher saga to Netflix members around the world.”

Andrzej Sapkowski served as a creative consultant on the series with more episodes set to follow.

It follows news that The Witcher series creator and developers CD Projekt RED have updated the terms of their deal.

Both CD Projekt Red and Mr Sapkowski have entered into a new deal that “solidifies and reinforces the company’s relationship” with the creator.

This new agreement means CD Projekt Red will continue to have the rights to develop games based on The Witcher series.

A statement said: “The agreement confers new rights upon the Company and reaffirms its existing title to ‘The Witcher’ intellectual property in developing video games, graphic novels, board games and merchandise.”

“We’ve always admired Mr. Andrzej Sapkowski’s works—a great inspiration for the team here at CD Project Red,” CD Projekt president Adam Kiciński adds in a statement. “I believe today marks a new stage in our continued relationship.”
