The GTA 6 release date could still be years away but that doesn’t mean that fans aren’t finding clues about it now.
Rockstar Games has a good history of offering Easter eggs in its games, and there’s no reason to think that they wouldn’t do the same for the next Grand Theft Auto title.
And with the ever-lasting GTA Online and the growing Red Dead Online still pulling in the players, wouldn’t this be the perfect time to start teasing what comes next?
That’s what gamers are thinking, with plenty of work being done to find the next big clues regarding GTA 6.
Recently, this has included finding stuff pointing to South America, including maps being shown for the recent GTA 5 Online Diamond Casno Heist.
This links back to an older rumour that GTA 6 would be set in different locations, including places in South America and the United States.
Project Americas is something that has been written off and then looked at again several times.
And now gamers are wondering if something else might have been hiding in plain sight.
The island of Guarma is a location you visit during the story campaign of Red Dead Redemption 2.
The island appears to be a huge place, but you don’t really get to explore it that much.
In fact, some players were surprised at just how limited their time on the island was. And this has led some to think that the map might be reused for something else.
Could Rockstar Games be saving Guarma for GTA 6? This would feed into the Project Americas leaks but isn’t something that Rockstar Games has noted.
Other gamers believe Guarma may have just been cut content for a project that was getting too big and had already been delayed several times.
Others are not so sure, with new fan theories popping up surrounding the potential significance of the location.
One user posted online about how the Doomsday Heist facility computers had started to circle locations like Vice City, Cuba and Colombia, along with South America being highlighted in the new Casino Heist DLC teaser.
“Even the mention of Project Americas is in RDR2 files. I think it’s happening; we’re going to have Colombia in GTA 6,” one user posted.
Another added their own theory, posting: “Having Guarma in RDR2 was a bit suspicious too. Seems like a lot of effort to develop a jungle environment for such a short chapter. Possible dry run for more expansive jungle in Columbia or Central America. Sort of like how North Yankton preempted the snow environments in RDR2.
“DR 2’s Guarma could have been created because R* wanted to create jungle environment for RDR 2 as preparation before starting to create it into GTA 6. Like getting experience on making different type of environment.
Another adds: “Guarma was supposed to be an entire island we could explore at some point if I remember correctly. I remember on the original RDR2 map leak, you could see that they had the entire island mapped out.
“That being said, wouldn’t surprise me to see Guarma assets reused for Colombia.”
While fans continue their hunt for GTA 6 clues on PS4 and Xbox One, it seems more and more likely that the next game will be on PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles.
Unless an announcement is made in early 2020, it would suggest that Rockstar Games won’t be launching it next game during that year.
And if that’s true, it also means that they are probably planning for next-gen consoles only.
There’s still a chance of a cross-generational game being in the works, but the longer time goes on, the less likely that is likely to happen.
There will also be the question of whether Rockstar Games plans to launch a version of GTA 5 Online for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
