Jenas questions Ancelotti appointment

“When all the money arrived at Manchester City there were a couple of steps in the ladder before they got Pep Guardiola – there was Mark Hughes, Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini,” he told BBC Sport.

“There was a Robinho and Yaya Toure before they brought the others players who helped them to take the step up.

“If Everton are trying to go down that mould and think ‘we can go and spend money to create a super team’.

“Ancelotti is that, he can help them take the next step but everyone can say ‘great appointment – with his name and trophies’ – but what this club needs right now, is it that? I don’t know – or is it what Duncan Ferguson is already bringing to the table.”

And here’s Arteta!

Ozil foot injury?

Mesut Ozil is out of today’s game with a foot injury, apparently. But Arsenal legend Martin Keown, providing his insight on BT Sport, isn’t so sure.

“I’m not convinced, to be honest. Ozil is a problem that Arteta has to manage,” he said.

“He’s probably taken himself out because he thought Freddie wouldn’t play him. He came off against City and didn’t look particularly happy.

“Today, the hard workers and the grafters who Ljungberg can rely on, are playing.

:He’s setting an example of the workmate and desire that Arsenal players need to play with.”

One said: “Unreal appointment. First step towards painting the city of Liverpool in blue.”

Another added: “Nice appointment lads. Just excited to see how Kean develops tbh.”

This Tottenham fan said: “From another Spurs fan I hope the same. He is an amazing manager. I remember I was jealous when Chelsea appointed him and tbh I am equally jealous as well right now. But much happier he is at Everton rather than Chelsea again!”

Another said: “Crazy appointment but a real show of ambition from Everton well done.”

Lastly, one said: “OH MY GOD. I mean we knew but we didn’t KNOW!”

@ArsenalArena: “I’m expecting a good performance today against Everton despite Arteta not having tactical influence in the game. The players will want to impress him. #EVEARS.”

Arsenal have arrived

Everton look back on old times…

Ancelotti says…

“This is a great club with a rich history and a very passionate fan base. There is a clear vision from the Owner and the Board to deliver success and trophies.

“That is something that appeals to me as a manager and I am thrilled at the prospect of being able to work with everybody at the Club to help make that vision a reality.

“I have seen from the performances in the last two weeks that the players are capable of so much. The work Duncan has done is a great credit to him.

“Strong organisation, strong discipline and the right motivation are some of the key ingredients in football and I’m pleased that he will be part of my backroom team moving forward.”

Ancelotti confirmed!

Managers’ say

“Of course it’s going to be a difficult one tomorrow [against Everton] because everybody knows [Arteta’s] taking over the team and the club. I just hope the players will still try to be motivated and go for it,” Ljungberg said ahead of the game.

“With me and him, I’m really looking forward to sitting down and discussing things. I met him before. I have the deepest respect for him and his football knowledge. Together, I think we can do this very, very well.”

Ferguson said of his side’s chances: “We’ve proved that we can beat top teams. We need to sustain that now. We’ve proven that we can do that and need to continue it, push up the league and away from the relegation zone.

“I don’t know who the manager is going to be next but the [Ancelotti’ls] an incredible manager. He’s won everything. Hopefully we’ll get a top top guy coming in.”

Arteta appointed

Mikel Arteta left Manchester City on Friday to join Arsenal on a three-and-a-half year deal in a move which some fans and pundits have described as a risk.

“I have so much respect for this club, if I didn’t feel I am ready and prepared for this I wouldn’t be sitting in this chair,” Arteta said.

“It was always a dream for me. The day I made a decision to leave this football club I said to the people that I am going outside, I am going to learn, get prepared and hopefully one day I can come back here when I feel I am ready.

“I have been preparing for a few years for this challenge to come. I know the expectations, level and stature of this club and what it deserves. I am ready for that challenge.”
