Ruth Jones weight loss: Gavin & Stacey star used this diet plan to shed 4st 7lb

Ruth Jones is an actress, comedian and writer who has shown off her slimming frame in the past few years. Many will recognise her from shows including Stella, Little Britain and Gavin & Stacey. What did she do to shape up?

“Something just clicked, I felt this is now or never, I wanted to make a positive change for me, and I haven’t looked back.

“I knew that I had months ahead of me writing Stella and this was my chance to change my routine.”

Instead of following a strict diet plan, Ruth decided to look at how much she was eating instead of what she was eating.

By monitoring her calorie intake, the actress managed to shed an impressive amount of weight.

DON’T MISS

She added: “It’s taken me 22 months to lose four and a half stone. Although I have done loads of diets in my time I have never done it the old-fashioned way – taking in less calories than I was using.

“I thought, right, they say 2000 calories a day is the norm for a woman. I’ll aim for 1,250 to 1,500 a day and see how it goes.

“Some days are better than others. But if you think about it, there’s calorie values on the back of everything – supermarket sandwiches, chocolate bars – everything.”

While many people try to lose weight quickly, Ruth focused on taking her time to shape up the right way.

Creating a calorie deficit can be a simple way to drop a few pounds.

When doing this, dieters are required to monitor how much they eat and ensure they burn off more calories than they take in.

How many calories a person needs depends on their size, genetics and lifestyle.

However the NHS guidelines said: “Generally, the recommended daily calorie intake is 2,000 calories a day for women and 2,500 for men.”
