Cheryl Baker: Bucks Fizz star opens up on Gary Rhodes’ funeral after ‘collapsing in tears’

Singer Cheryl Baker spoke about attending the funeral of her “great friend” Gary Rhodes. Cheryl, 65, had done extensive charity work with Gary Rhodes, who died in Dubai on 26 November aged 59.

Cheryl exclusively told Express.co.uk: “Yes I was at his funeral. I didn’t go to the [reception] afterwards because I was supposed to be working on the Monday.

“Apparently they had all of Gary’s favourite food and all of Gary’s favourite music playing and so in a way I wish I had gone.”

The former Dancing on Ice contestant went on to describe her “fabulous” late friend Gary, and the heartbreaking way she discovered his death.

She said: “He was fabulous. He was a great friend of mine and I can’t believe he is gone.

He collapsed and died suddenly at his home in Dubai where he lived with his wife Jennie and ran two restaurants at luxury hotels.

He was cremated at a private funeral service in London in December, almost a month after he died.

Cheryl and Mike continue to perform as part of The Fizz with bandmate Jay Aston.

The trio have a Christmas album out, Christmas with the Fizz, and a new album out next year, Smoke and Mirrors.

Cheryl said their longevity is all thanks to their loyal fanbase.
