Donald Trump was found by Congress to have abused his office by asking Ukraine to investigate former Vice President and the President’s biggest rival in the 2020 election, Joe Biden. Members voted 230 to 197 in favour of the first article of impeachment. The second vote on whether the US President obstructed Congress in carrying out its investigation by banning witnesses and documents also passed by 229 to 19.
Former communications director for Trump Anthony Scaramucci believes the President will be forced to resign.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Mr Scaramucci said: “I don’t think anyone who loves the country is in love with the idea of the president getting impeached.
“He’s pulling the party along with him and now the move is can three or four Republic Senators be brave.”
Host Nick Robinson asked: “Are there any Republicans to make this happen in the Senate?”

The former aide said: “Somebody like Mitt Romney could potentially be that person, Ben Sasse, Senator Alexander from Tennessee.
“They’re been around for a long time and they’ll say, ‘look it’s got to be country over party’.”
Mr Scaramucci continued: “I don’t think any of them want to go to jail for Donald Trump.
“They’re going to have to tell the truth about what happened.
For this to happen, he would have to be found guilty by the Senate, which is controlled by Republicans.
Many have already indicated that they will not vote for the President’s removal.
Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi opened the debate on Wednesday with a speech from the floor of the House.
She said: “For centuries Americans have fought and died to defend democracy for the people, but very sadly now our founder’s vision of a republic is under threat from actions from the White House.
“If we do not act now, we would be derelict in our duty. It is tragic that the president’s reckless actions make impeachment necessary. He gave us no choice.”
